Description

The prestigious Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa, Oklahoma honored Bill as their featured painter for Gilcrease Rendezvous 1996, and this oil on linen painting, measuring 38×48, is one of the pieces Bill created especially for that exhibition. It features Vic Howell as the central figure. Howell, the Cowboss, is scattering the riders, or giving them their instructions for the drive on the CO Bar Ranch (of Babbitt Ranches) located north of Flagstaff, AZ. The piece appeared on the cover of the 2002 book printed by Greenwich Workshop, titled Cowboy Artists of America, and the book received The Wrangler Award by National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum on April 12, 2003.
