Valerie Owen’s quote regarding this piece: “Bill created this painting to be part of his 2012 Cowboy Artists of America Sale & Exhibition body of work; and he won the fourth CA Award of his career. Bill was a member of the Cowboy Artists of America from 1973 until his passing, June 15, 2013; just four months shy of his fortieth anniversary. During that time he won dozens of awards at the annual CAA show for his drawings, sculpture, watercolors, mixed media, and oil paintings. Of all the awards, the CAA Award was the most in meaningful to him. This award is the only one that is voted on by the Active Members of the organization. To be eligible for this award for Best Overall Exhibition an artist minimum of five pieces in the show. Although Bill didn’t create his art with the thought of winning an award in mind, this nod of approval from his peers always made him feel as if he had done his job well.”
