The Lead Man by Bill Owen

Of this piece created for the Prix de West Invitational, Bill states, “When moving a herd of cattle it sometimes becomes necessary for one of the cowboys who are riding point to move in front, taking the position of Lead Man.” This is a position of honor and usually the Wagon Boss, as is the case here.  The lead man is Wes Foote, Wagon Boss of the ORO Ranch, located northwest of Prescott; an Arizona ranch I enjoy visiting occasionally to gather research for my art.”
