Bill Owen’s quote regarding this piece: “In this painting which takes place on the CO Bar Ranch of Babbitt Ranches, north of Flagstaff, Arizona, I’ve captured the father-son team of Bill and Vic Howell as they catch a cow. Bill has roped her around the head and Vic is getting ready to come in and catch the two hind feet. This is often necessary on ranches, and is usually done when there’s a need to doctor a cow for one reason or another. This is where the sport of team roping originated. However, these cowboys are not doing it for sport; they’re doing what needs to be done and doing it in the traditional way.”
